Now that we know we will have a Halloween Event this year we can begin to speculate on what this event will feature. Niantic will likely include some of the same popular features, but adding new features will be necessary so it doesn't become a repeat event. On top of that, we still have to figure out what the Pokémon Company's mysterious and exciting "new Pokémon" line from their recent article refers to.
PAST FEATURES: Before we dive into PNN's predictions for 2017's event, lets take a look back at what we experienced in 2016. Last year's event had double Candy, reduced Buddy distances, and increased spawns of "spooky" Pokémon.
SPOOKY POKÉMON: The original roster of spooky Pokémon was Gastly, Haunter, Gengar, Drowzee, Hypno, Zubat, and Golbat. Meowth, Cubone, and Marowak were added later on to help diversify the spawns. In addition to these Pokémon, we expect Nianitc to add other nocturnal, Ghost-type, and Dark-type Pokémon (such as Noctowl, Houndoom, and Misdreavus).
DOUBLE CANDY: The "trick-or-treat-ing" Pokémon will probably always be part of the Halloween event. Double Candy and reduced Buddy distances will likely return this year, as there really isn't a reason for them not to. Excluding the worldwide bonuses after Pokémon GO Fest Chicago, we haven't had double Candy since Valentine's Day.
NEW POKÉMON: Ever since that phrase was published, speculation has run wild on what it could mean. The consensus seems to be it means some or all of Gen 3, a brand-new Legendary, or the new Legendary Beast coming on Halloween. We believe it means at least some of Generation 3. Although we're expecting the new Pokémon before Halloween, the Ghost-type and Dark-type Pokémon from Hoenn will probably be released as a preview should Generation 3 be released afterwards.
This Halloween is certainly going to be massive! Let's hope that this Halloween is even bigger than the last, Trainers!
