Earlier this week, Niantic announced that Dratini will be the next featured Pokémon for Community Day. Dratini is a great featured Pokémon, but what other Pokémon might become the star of a Community Day? On top of that, will we see Shiny Dratini for next month's event? Let's dive in!
DRATINI: Let's start by looking at Dratini. Although Dragonite's Shiny variant is a dark green, Dratini and Dragonair have bright pink Shiny forms. To go along with the Valentine's Day event, it would make sense to release some pink-colored Shiny forms. Shiny Dratini seems to have a good chance of being released next month, Trainers!
LUVDISC: Speaking of the Valentine's Day event, we expect Luvdisc's Shiny variant to be released then. After all, it's a literal pink heart that somehow became a fish. This Pokémon is the first that comes to mind when thinking of Valentine's Day, so we think that there is a real chance of getting a Shiny variant released.
GASTLY, CHIKORITA, IGGLYBUFF, CLEFFA: Excluding all of the Hoenn Region and Legendary Pokémon, these four Pokémon (plus Gastly and Chikorita's evolutions) are the only others with Shiny sprites on the servers that have not been made available.
It would make sense to finally release these Pokémon's Shiny forms. Gengar is very relevant in the meta-game, Meganium is rare and a starter, and Clefable and Wigglytuff are not very relevant and in need of some attention. Those Pokémon definitely seem like good candidates for Community Day stars and Shiny forms.
LOTAD, CORPHISH: Surprisingly, Lotad and Corphish are incredibly rare in weather that isn't Rainy. With insanely-boosted spawn rates, many more Trainers will be able to get Crawdaunt and Ludicolo. Additionally, Corphish, Lotad, Lombre, and Ludicolo all have great Shiny forms (Crawdaunt, however, does not).
WAILMER, MAGIKARP: Wailmer and Magikarp both require 400 Candy to evolve, and are uncommon in biomes not based around water. To give Trainers without access to a nearby lake, ocean, or river, we expect that Wailmer and Magikarp to eventually become the feature of a Community Day. As far as Shiny variants go, Shiny Magikarp and Shiny Gyarados have already been released, but Shiny Wailmer is a pale pink and Shiny Wailord is a bright pink.
MAGNEMITE: Magnemite is an interesting case. It is very rare in some biomes and very common in others. This, plus the minimal amount of Steel-types, means that the Depot Agent Medal is hard to achieve. Also, Magneton gains an evolution in Generation 4, so the Candy will be helpful.
As far as Shiny variants go, Shiny Magnemite and Shiny Magneton aren't terrific designs. But, we need to warn you. We have given a lot of hype for new Shiny Pokémon to be released for Community Day, but we can't confirm that Community Day will be a way to release Shinies yet. We need to wait and see what happens with Shiny Dratini next month before we are certain.
Thanks for reading, Trainers. Let us know what you think of these ideas on Twitter (@PNN_APTV) and if you have any others.
