news roundup

Well, this article didn't come out as planned! A power outage has delayed and changed this article. Regardless, here is a roundup of today's Pokémon GO news:

RESEARCH BREAKTHROUGH: Thanks to some timezone tricks, we know what the rewards for (at least this week's) Research Breakthrough are. As for items, you'll receive 3000 XP, five Pinap Berries, five Ultra Balls, 2000 Stardust, and three Rare Candy.

Additionally, you'll have an encounter with the Legendary Pokémon Moltres. You'll have access to all of your Berries and Balls, and not be limited to a set amount of Premier Balls like after a Legendary Raid. We've seen no reports of anyone's Moltres running from them, which would lead us to believe that, even though Moltres will be able to break out of the Poké Ball, you are guaranteed to catch it.

All reports we've seen have been of Moltres (and no reports of a Shiny variant). We theorize that Moltres may be the Legendary Pokémon programmed for the first Research Breakthrough. Each week, we may see a new Legendary Pokémon pop out of the package. But, this is speculative, and we won't know for certain until people reach their next Research Breakthrough in another week.

EARTH DAY: Earlier today, Niantic announced that they are partnering with Mission Blue for an Earth Day Cleanup event. If enough Trainers participate in one of Mission Blue's events, we'll receive increased Stardust for Grass-, Water-, and Ground-type Pokémon for the 48 hours after Earth Day. If 1500 Trainers participate, the Stardust will be doubled. If 3000+ Trainers participate, the Stardust will be tripled. Find an event near you by clicking here.

Thanks for reading, Trainers! Again, we apologize for the severe delay of this article.
