Niantic has just announced that Legendary Pokémon will be coming to Pokémon GO, beginning this weekend at GO Fest! But there's a catch! Legendary Raids are the mystery challenge, meaning Trainers around the world need to catch enough Pokémon to allow for the entire world to get access to Tier 5 Raids in their very own neighborhoods. If the mystery challenge is unlocked, GO Fest-ers will battle the Legendaries. Each Legendary that is defeated becomes available to all Trainers after the festival.
The trailer shows Ho-Oh, Zapdos, Articuno, Mewtwo, and Lugia in it, meaning these are the most likely candidates for the mystery challenge's Bosses. Interestingly, the Mythical Pokémon (Mew and Celebi) and the three Legendary dogs (Raikou, Entei, and Suicune) were not shown in the trailer. These five Pokémon may not be making an appearance at GO Fest, but it's still possible.
The blog post for this update also informs us that Legendaries refuse to leave their Trainer's side. This means they cannot be placed in Gyms as defenders. Also, Niantic will be livestreaming the entire GO Fest on Twitch and YouTube.
Get hyped, Trainers! Remember to catch as many Pokémon as you can during the challenge windows (see the headlines)!
