Whenever we watch a Pokémon GO livestream on YouTube, we constantly see questions in the chat about what we can do to prepare for Generation 3. Ask no more! This article will serve as your one-stop guide to preparing for Gen 3's release.
CANDY: Nothing! No Pokémon in Generation 3 (except for Azurill and Wynaut, the baby forms of Marill and Wobbuffet) evolve from or into a Pokémon that already exists. With the exception of Sylveon in Gen 6, Generation 4 is the last time you'll need to save Candy for new evolutions. But will get there when we get there.
EVOLUTION ITEMS: As far as Evolution Items go, the same answer applies. No Pokémon from the Hoenn region will require a pre-existing Evolution Item to evolve.
If you aren't a free-to-play Trainer, you probably bought a lot of the gift boxes from the Legendary Bird and Equinox Events like we did. If you have a surplus of special Items like we do, save them!
SUPER INCUBATORS: If you still have some Super Incubators left, start saving them! You're going to want good-IV versions of the new Pokémon to evolve as soon as you can, and Super Incubators will speed up the process.
INCENSE & LURE MODULES: If you plan on doing a big hunting session as soon as you can after Generation 3 drops, Lure Modules and Incense will definitely help you catch more Pokémon faster. We have a surplus of Lure Modules from all the Equinox Boxes we bought (one of our correspondents has over 100), and we are going to save all of them.
RARE CANDY & PINAP BERRIES: Most importantly, save up some Rare Candy and Pinap Berries! Candy is the most important thing when it comes to new species of Pokémon, and using anything to get more of the rare varieties is important. If you want to use the Rare Candy on Legendaries, go ahead, but save those Pinap Berries (one of our correspondents has over 300 saved from earlier this summer)!
Some Pokémon you definitely want to be using those Candy-giving Items on are as follows: Beldum, Bagon, Feebas, Slakoth, Torchic, Makuhita, Aron, Treecko, Trapinch, Spheal, Anorith, Mudkip, Ralts, or their evolutions.
LUCKY EGGS: Large amounts of XP await with over 100 new Pokémon! It doubles with the activation of a Lucky Egg, so make sure you have some ready to go when Generation 3 launches.
A quick note on purchasable Items: make sure to buy Lucky Eggs, Lure Modules, and Incense when Generation 3 is announced, not when it becomes active. The servers will undoubtedly be laggy when it launches, so have these Items bought and ready to go.
Make sure to seriously consider saving up those Items, as well as Poké Balls, before Generation 3 releases soon. Thanks for reading, Trainers!
