Legendary Pokémon were one of the most anticipated updates in Pokémon GO history. The Internet was overgrown with speculation and clickbait about how to get them. Well, some were released this summer and fall. The excitement started off strong with the Birds, but then fizzled out into nonexistence when the Beasts began their rotation. So did Legendaries actually hurt Pokémon GO?
LIMITED-TIME-ONLY: Excluding Mewtwo, all of the Legendary Pokémon that have been released were only available for a limited time. Articuno, Zapdos, and Moltres were only scheduled to be available for one week, although they were extended for another two weeks.
Niantic seemed to see that we liked a longer time period to catch Legendaries, so they released the Legendary Beasts for a month at a time. The difference here is that we had one (not four) Legendary to catch for an even longer time than we had with the three Birds. So, Trainers complained that this was too long (as it indeed was, with no another events accompanying them).
THE AMOUNT: The frequency of Legendary Raids is another problem. There is little challenge finding a Legendary Raid, and finding people was pretty easy in the warmer months of the year. Of course, that is for the non-rural players only. Rural players (one's that are hurt by almost every update) have much trouble even finding a Legendary Raid, not to mention beating one.
So some people have way too many Legendary Pokémon than they should. After all, each main-series game only allows you to get one of each Legendary species. And some people, again because of their living arrangements, have such a difficult time getting a Legendary that they'll remain gaps in their Pokédex for a long time.
MISHANDLING RAIDS: It's not just Legendaries, it's Raids in general. Raids started out fine, but all off Niantic's changes to the system have been negative.
RAID EGGS RETURNING: They made Raid Eggs return, which shaved off half of the time to do a Raid. Honestly, that was the stupidest idea Niantic could've thought of. Although it does give you an hour to prepare for the Raid, it's not like people cannot do that during the first hour of a two-hour Raid. And, if any people came along to do the Raid while groups were preparing, they still could.
SHAVING TIME: When Raid Eggs returned, the amount of time to do a Raid was cut in half. It was decreased to an hour from two hours. On top of that, the Raid Boss Rotation brought a 15 minute decrease to the Raid (not wait) timer. It is completely non-sensible that Niantic is giving us less time to do Raids while trying to promote them the best feature and an alternative to catching Pokémon.
EX RAID CONFUSION: In our opinion, EX Raids were a pretty good idea for releasing Legendaries. Unfortunately, Niantic did not handle them well.We had to wait forever for them to even start after Pokémon GO Stadium, the algorithm is completely random and unfair, and even more. This system needs improvements.
FIXES: We have already discussed this in a previous article discussing EX Raids after Niantic's statement last month regarding them. Click or tap here to read that article with our suggested fixes. We know that Niantic is expected to make an update on a pre-existing feature sometime this week, and we expect it to be EX Raids. Thanks for reading, Trainers.
