Niantic released a blog post a week ago that was meant to reaffirm their commitments to Pokémon GO. In that article, Niantic promised a news update on system improvements sometime this week. Well, that news never came. Apparently, making false promises is the way Niantic shows us that they are still committed to this game.
Okay, we know that that's a bit harsh. To be perfectly honest, we think that the Pokémon Company probably shut Niantic down to avoid taking the spotlight off Pokémon Ultra Sun and Pokémon Ultra Moon (the latest main-series games, which released on Friday). Still, Niantic could have said something along the lines of, "We are delaying the news update we promised you to next week." Then again, Niantic is not one for communication.
The only news we got this week was from the addition of Alola-themed clothing for your avatar. By no means does this sound like "an update ... on upcoming improvements to certain features." Notice that "feature" is plural. Niantic really made it sound like we were actually going to get some major news, or something better than new avatar options.
So can we still expect any news? In all technicality, the week doesn't end until the end of the day, so it is still possible Niantic keeps their promise (although they haven't been prone to weekend news in the past). With Thanksgiving next week, we may receive news about an event sometime soon (probably Tuesday, as past trends suggest), so the update features may be rolled in with that.
