April 9 - 15

1.   The  fourth  community  day

Today is the fourth-ever Community Day in Pokémon GO, which features the Electric-type Pokémon Mareep and the reduction of Egg-hatching distance by 75%. In addition to the introduction of the Shiny Mareep family, any Flaaffy evolved to Ampharos will learn the move Dragon Pulse.

2.   Kanto  week

A new event is ongoing in Pokémon GO. This event celebrates the Kanto Region by having Pokémon introduced in Generation 1. Additionally, Lure Modules last for six hours, buddy distance is halved, and Candy is doubled. Special Kantonian Raid Bosses are also live. A sale is ongoing, and it is the best discount Niantic has ever given us in Pokémon GO.

3.   Meet  the  mythical  Zeraora

The Mythical Pokémon Zeraora has been officially revealed by the Pokémon Company. Although we have known about it for a while now thanks to a datamine of Pokémon Ultra Sun and Pokémon Ultra Moon, it is the new Pokémon we mentioned last week.

This Mythical Pokémon is to be given out for the previously-mentioned games, although details on that are still waiting to be revealed. Zeraora is to be given out as a tie-in for the twenty-first Pokémon movie, which it will feature in.

4.   Miscellaneous  news

GRASS GYM CUP: A new Gym Cup is ongoing in Pokémon Duel. It centers around Grass-types, and gives participants the chance to acquire the exclusive Mow Rotom (EX). The Cup ends on April 16, 2018.

AND THE NOMINEES ARE...: Niantic's Pokémon GO Travel campaign has been nominated for a 2018 Webby Award. It's currently doing quite well among voters.

NEW UPDATE: Pokémon GO was updated to version 0.99.2 this week. Unfortunately, this update did not bring any changes beyond two mysterious lines of code that seem unlikely to turn into anything significant and some graphical updates.

EX RAIDS: A new wave of EX Raid Passes has been given out for April 22-23.

RESEARCH BREAKTHROUGH: Trainers discovered the reward for the second Research Breakthrough this week. Unfortunately, it was the same as the prior reward, which includes an encounter with Moltres.

5.   Weekend  trivia

This Pokémon can create strong currents and whirlpools by spinning around. While it is not a Poison-type, it has toxic barbs on its body. Who's that Pokémon: Omastar, Goldeen, Gyarados, or Seadra? This week, voters were in favor of the correct answer: Seadra.
