Turtwig is the Grass-type starter of Generation 4, which took place in the Sinnoh Region. If it follows the trend of Bulbasaur, Chikorita, Treecko, and the other starters, you will be able to hatch it out of 5KM Eggs. It is expected to cost 25 Turtwig Candy to evolve.

Grotle is the evolved form of Turtwig. It's family was first discovered in the Pokémon Diamond and Pokémon Pearl video games. To evolve Grotle further, we expect it to require 100 Turtwig Candy. We expect Grotle and its family to take 3KM to earn a Candy when walking it as a Buddy.

Torterra

PLACE IN THE META: Torterra has the stats and typing to make it a great addition to the metagame. It only needs good moves from Niantic. As a Grass- and Ground-type, Torterra takes increased damage from Fire-, Flying-, and Bug-type damage. It takes greatly-increased damage from Ice-type attacks. It takes reduced damage from Ground-type and Rock-type attacks.

LIKELY MOVEPOOL: Out of the Fast Moves we currently have in Pokémon GO, the following are the ones that seem most likely to be given to Torterra:
  • Bite
  • Razor Leaf
  • Iron Tail

Out of the Charged Moves we currently have in Pokémon GO, the following are the ones that seem most likely to be given to Torterra:
  • Earthquake
  • Crunch
  • Stone Edge
  • Frenzy Plant
  • Solar Beam

Should Niantic add any new moves, the following are good candidates for Torterra's movepool:
  • Leaf Storm
  • Wood Hammer
  • Giga Impact
  • Rock Climb

LOOKING AHEAD: Looking beyond Generation 4, Torterra gains no evolution, Mega Evolution, or exclusive Z-Move.
Well, that's it for this installment of our Generation 4 Preview series. Thanks for reading, Trainers! More previews are to come soon, so stay tuned!
