The Global Catch Challenge is now live! Our goal is to catch three billion Pokémon by November 26. Calculations say that this is possible (and Niantic will probably give us some of the rewards anyway), if everyone catches a handful of Pokémon every day. But what does the event mean for both the release of Ho-Oh and Generation 3?
HO-OH: We need a new Legendary! We haven't gotten a brand-new one since the Legendary Beasts were introduced. It would really make people more excited about Raiding, at least for a couple of days.
Ho-Oh has been teased since the original Legendary trailer, and we've seen nothing of it. We thought it would come out at GO Stadium, but we got Mewtwo instead. Since then, the only theory that the community has come up with is a Thanksgiving release. After all, Ho-Oh is a very turkey-like Pokémon (although it is technically a phoenix).
And with the Challenge Window ending on November 26 at the Japanese Safari Zone in Tottori, something could happen there that involves the release of Ho-Oh.
GENERATION 3: This event is definitely the last big thing of the Generation 2 era of Pokémon GO. And since the event's after-effects will end on December 1, Generation 3 launching on that day makes sense. We saw an extension of six-hour lures into the first weekend of Generation 2. It would be great to see that again, along with double XP.
We saw the majority of Generation 2 launch shortly after the Valentine's Day Event earlier this year. The Gym rework and Raid Battles launched shortly after the Solstice Event. Should the trend continue, Generation 3 will also launch after a significant event. And with the new content greatly needed, Generation 3 releasing day one of December after a large event could bring back some of the hype that has been flushed down the toilet as of late.
Thanks for reading, Trainers. If you missed yesterday's event details or Weekend Download, make sure to check them out as well.
